Col. Michael Koceja is the highest ranking officer at the Norfolk Sheriff's Office.
He plans, implements, directs and supervises the NSO's programs, activities
and personnel and is in charge in the absence of the Sheriff. Col. Koceja also
develops, disseminates, and monitors policies and procedures. He provides overall
support for the Sheriff and oversees budgetary considerations.
Col. Koceja has been with the Norfolk Sheriff's Office since November of 1987.
Before that, he served in the United States Marine Corps for five years - in the
infantry division, special security forces, and within various divisions as
administrative chief responsible for organization, supervision, and delegation of duties.
Col. Koceja graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Criminal Justice from St. Leo
University with a minor in Human Resources. He has earned numerous awards and
accommodations for his law enforcement expertise, including the NSO's meritorious
service award and the Norfolk Fire Rescue Citizen Lifesaving Award.
