Requirements for All Applicants (Deputy & Civilian)

• A good employment, credit, and police record
• 21 years old (Deputy) or 18 years old (Civilian)
• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate
• A valid Virginia or North Carolina Driver's License
• Social Security Card
• Original Birth Certificate.

          (Former military must provide an original DD-214)

Requirements for Deputy Applicants

• Background Check (Criminal History, DMV, Credit)
• Written Test for Language and Mathematics
• Physical Agility Test
• Polygraph Examination
• Medical examination
• Employment Contract

Requirements for Civilian Applicants

• Background Check (Criminal History, DMV, Credit)

Deputy Incentives

• Physical Fitness Pay Incentive Program:
  $50.00 per month
• Education Pay:
  $42.00 per month for any degree
• Tuition Reimbursement:
  Available after 6 months of employment
