Lt. Col. Norman Hughey is the Chief of Operations at the Norfolk Sheriff's Office.
His responsibilities include Jail Corrections, Program Services, Community Affairs,
Court Security, Community Corrections and Civil Process.
One of the NSO's longest serving deputies; Lt. Col. Hughey was hired in March of
1979. In 1982, his supervisor recommended him for Sergeant. He continued advancing
through the ranks, getting promoted to the Major in charge of Corrections in 2002;
and then Lt. Col and Chief of Operations in 2006.
Lt. Col. Hughey is a Firearms and General instructor. He is also certified in Project
Lifesaver, an innovative rapid response program to locate and rescue people suffering
from Alzheimer's disease and related disorders such as Down Syndrome and Autism.
