The Norfolk Jury Sheriff’s Office is responsible for the management
and administration of jurors for the 9 courtrooms in the Circuit Court,
as well as grand jurors, and special grand jurors.
Potential jurors are selected randomly using lists from voters' registration
within the City of Norfolk. You must be at least 18 years of age to qualify asa potential juror. Once you receive a Summons for Jury Duty, you must
respond. The summons to jury service is an official court summons. Jurors
who fail to respond to the Summons could be held in contempt of court.
Jurors are reimbursed $30.00 per day for each day of attendance.
This amount is determined by the Virginia General Assembly.
Those selected for jury duty will serve for a term of 4 to 5 weeks. Each juror
will be assigned 1 day a week to report for jury service. The day of the week
assigned will remain the same throughout the 4 to 5 week period. Jurors
should report for duty no later than 9:00am with your summons in hand.
The Jury Sheriff or the Jury Administrator provides an orientation program for
jurors to inform and educate them about jury service and the trial process.
The Jury Office is located in the Circuit Court Building at 100 St. Paul's Blvd.,
next to the city hall building. Jurors may park in the Union Street city garage.
Bring the parking stub with you to the jury office so it can be validated and no
fee will be charged for parking while you have jury duty.
If you have any questions, or requests concerning jury service, you may call
our office at (757) 664-4343, Monday through Friday, from 7:00am - 4:00pm.
