              The Citizen’s Advisory Council is designed to be representative of the
              community. It encourages involvement as the community link into the
              operations, services, and functions of the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office and the
              Norfolk City Jail. The Citizen’s Advisory Council is authorized by the
              Norfolk Sheriff’s Office and members are appointed by the Norfolk
              City Sheriff and serve in a voluntary capacity.


              Conducts council proceedings by first establishing, electing and
              maintaining a board of officers, i.e., Chairperson, Vice Chairperson,
              and Secretary. Separate committees with representatives within the
              council’s membership may be appointed as necessary.

              Conducts departmental and service reviews within the Norfolk
              Sheriff’s Office and the Norfolk City Jail providing advisory reports
              and recommendations to the designated authority of findings
              or observations.

              Conducts monthly council meetings, the agenda decided upon by
              the membership and as coordinated through the
              Norfolk Sheriff’s Office Citizen’s Advisory Council Liaison.

              Provides formal agenda and minutes to meetings, copy furnished
              to the Office of the Sheriff, City of Norfolk.

              Monitors the grievance procedure and coordination process.

              Provides fair resolution and expeditious response to appeals of
              grievances filed by resident inmates in accordance with established
              policy and procedures.
